Charles MacLean, described by the Sunday Times as “whisky’s finest guru” has spent the past 30 years researching, writing and lecturing about Scotch whisky.
During his talk on November 25 he will be providing a whistlestop tour around Scotland’s finest whiskies and exploring the flavours and characters of his favourites.
He is the author of ten ne books on the subject, including the standard work on whisky brands, Scotch Whisky, and the authoritative Malt Whisky, both of which were short-listed for Glenfiddich Awards.
His unique talent was on show in the 2012 hit film from director Ken Loach – The Angels’ Share.
Playing a cameo role in the film, undertaking a tutored tasting in the famous Caledonian Hotel, Edinburgh, he did much to inspire the film’s main character Robbie in his newly found passion for whisky.
Charles shares his passion by leading whisky expeditions around Scotland, and delivering master classes for whisky companies, clubs and groups all over the world.
He has a longstanding connection to the St Andrews area, holding degrees in Art History from St Andrews, and Law from Dundee.
Tickets for the event are £8 per person, and can be bought at Topping and Company Booksellers, which is opening in Greyfriars Garden, St Andrews, on November 17.
