They will be offering a day of cookery demonstrations and tastings, and on St Andrew’s Day they’ll be out and about helping to feed visitors to the town with a stand offering festive nibbles in return for donations.

Tonight (Friday) they will be involved in the team presenting the annual festival dinner at the Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort&Spa.

The town hall team will involve Vicki Munro – who heads the hospitality programme at the Elmwood Campus of Scotland’s Rural College and recently received a personal excellence award – and college chef lecturer Wullie Balfour, who has just joined the board of the Federation of Chefs Scotland.

Only a few months ago SRUC Elmwood team scooped a major honour in winning the Excellence in Hospitality Education category in the CIS Excellence Awards 2014.

The scheme recognizes and rewards the exceptionally high degrees of creativity, innovation and excellence in Scottish catering, hospitality and tourism.

This was followed by runners-up spot for SRUC Elmwood in the national annual Young Seafood Chef of the Year competition. The Seafish-sponsored event saw youngsters from around the UK compete to win the title under the watchful eye of celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli.

On Saturday and Sunday the VisitScotland Information Centre in Market Street will be offering tastings between noon and 4pm. The schedule includes Jannettas Gelateria, the Byre Theatre, Forgan’s Restaurant, the Highland Chocolatier, Fairmont St Andrews, and Luvians.

Elsewhere in the town there will be a day of activity from 10-am-4pm on Saturday at the amazing Balgove Larder, with cookery demonstrations and producer tastings including Balgove’s own award winning haggis.

The annual Christmas Emporium will take place at the Old Course Hotel on Sunday from 11am-4pm, with a variety of food and drink experiences including a hog roast, afternoon tea, a festive market and food hall, demonstrations and tastings.

Special menus will be on offer at a number of restaurants and cafes across the town over the weekend, and on Saturday there will be wine tasting at Luvians, beer tasting at St Andrews Wine Company and the closing stages of Whisky Week promotions at the Keys Bar.
